I often ask clients to create a mask made of plaster of paris on a mold.  They can create it any way they like, but are encouraged to distinguish the outside as others see them and the inside the way they view themselves.
Clients are offered modge podge as an option using tissue paper or magazine clippings to cover something.  I have used the plastic containers as a way for clients to contain things for themselves (little notes etc.).  This can be a symbolic way to contain feelings/thought/fears. Sometimes I write little notes to clients that they keep in the containers.

Clay is a creative tool that allows the client to formulate their own sculpture.  You can see a hand I created in order for clients to see an object created with clay.  One of my clients created a bowl and asked me to help paint a tiger on the inside.

An example of a person as a container. "It's calming. A feeling of acceptance". Yellow symbolizes energy and green symbolizes finances. - T. H.

Here are some examples of artwork created by myself or by clients in therapy. I also provide examples of artwork for clients to see various ways of doing their own artwork.  The canvas to the left is a collaborative painting, completed by clients interested in working on it. My clients were asked to create some art symbolizing their lives and how therapy has been a part of their journey. You can view some of the pieces up close if you would like, but I am most proud of the collaboration that went into this painting.  It hangs on my back wall as a symbol of my office belonging to my client’s too.  To view comments some of my clients have made about their individual pieces see below.

* I am not a certified art therapist.  I do not use it as a tool of assessment, but rather a vehicle to allow clients to contain or process feelings.  I did therapy in a day treatment setting for several years and saw the benefits of its use as a way to express feelings.
